Hosting provider IONOS, delivering web hosting and cloud solutions for small and midsize businesses, has announced its 25th year in business and a series of achievements marking that milestone. Over 25 years, IONOS claims to have become a global leader in web hosting, a true cloud alternative to hyperscalers, and a public company with 6 million customers, 4,000 employees and an expected revenue of $1.5 billion this year.
Furthermore, the recent strategic appointments of Dr. Jens Reich, Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Chairman, and Dr. Markus Noga, Chief Technical Officer, would mark a significant milestone in the company’s leadership growth.
Looking back at its early days, the roots of IONOS can be traced back to June 1998 when German Internet Service Providers 1&1 and Schlund + Partner merged. The company started humbly, with just a single Windows NT PC, but today it stands as a global leader in web hosting.
In 2004, IONOS started offering all-inclusive hosting packages in the United States, which included webspace, domains, email accounts, and databases. Fast forward to this year, the company has made an impressive foray into the public sphere, undertaking an initial public offering (IPO) on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
Serving as a comprehensive digital solutions provider, the company now offers a number of services ranging from domains, website hosting, virtual and dedicated servers, e-commerce and online marketing services, to a fully-equipped cloud infrastructure network.
AI-powered Products
IONOS operates its own self-developed cloud stack and hosts its services with an internal development team, spread across 12 self-operated data centers in the U.S. and Europe.
In its next stage of growth, IONOS has welcomed strategic additions to its executive team. Dr. Jens Reich, formerly with HelloFresh, joined on July 1 as Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy Chairman, heading all global marketing and sales activities. Meanwhile, Dr. Markus Noga, who previously worked with SAP and SUSE, was appointed as the Chief Technology Officer in April.
Further fortifying its status as a tech pioneer, IONOS has introduced AI-powered products and a fresh ISV partner program this year. Enhancements in the product portfolio include an AI text generator for the MyWebsite Now website builder, upgrades to the VPS (virtual private server) product portfolio, and the launch of an AI-supported email marketing solution.
As a part of its ongoing partnership ecosystem enhancement, IONOS introduced a new partner program for independent software vendors (ISVs) in June. The objective is to construct a comprehensive cloud solution portfolio for SMBs, built on IONOS infrastructure. This would enable SMBs to leverage a cost-efficient range of solutions from ISVs, fostering scalability and digital innovation. The future plans also involve establishing a marketplace for a seamless integration of ISVs’ products on the IONOS Cloud Platform.
This 25-year milestone marks the beginning of a new era for IONOS, according to the company itself, with its recent IPO, continuous product and partner program developments, and strategic leadership appointments.
